Research Assistant - Course Material Preparation

**Position**: Research Assistant for Educational Course Development

**Course Duration**: 36 lessons over 13 weeks
**About the Project**:
I'm developing a 13-week program targeting students with skills ranging from just above beginners to fairly advanced levels. The curriculum will cover tools and workflows like VS Code, Git workflows, GitHub components, and working in Github codespaces, culminating in several practical projects.
**Responsibilities**:
1. **Research & Fact-checking**: Cross-reference technical content with credible sources and official documentation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
2. **Course Development**: Upon selection, you'll receive the course outline. Your role is to assist in refining this outline, identifying gaps, and proposing enhancements.
3. **Feedback & Collaboration**: Bring an outsider's perspective, looking at the content from a beginner to an advanced learner's viewpoint. Highlight gaps or redundancies.
4. **Language Proficiency**: Must understand a British English accent for voice notes interpretation.
5. **Technical Formatting**: Experience with markdown for content formatting is essential. Familiarity with PowerPoint layouts is beneficial.
**Essential Qualities**:
- Strong attention to detail.
- A commitment to producing quality over quantity.
- Efficient sourcing and referencing of information.
- Willingness to delve deep into VS Code, Git workflows, GitHub components, and code spaces. I am not looking for you to be an expert; you will be going be referencing online manuals and data sources that I direct you to. However, you must be able to read and process technical information, even if it is just to forget after the research ;-)
- Effective communication skills.
**Quality Over Quantity**:
Quality work is paramount. I seek a candidate who prioritises delivering high-calibre feedback and insights over sheer volume. The goal is to enhance the course's richness and appeal. While quality is the primary yardstick, aspects like quantity and promptness will be considered once this is ascertained.
**Note**:
- This job is posted to three candidates for the initial phase. Only one will be selected for an extended partnership post-evaluation, provided the course proposal gets greenlit.
- Expected commitment: Approximately 12 hours. Payment is on a fixed basis and will be processed upon completion. Just to clarify, I am not going to police you or expect you online at a particular time but I will need the work by the deadline. Of course, if you want to do more than 12 hours for the money offered to secure more work, then by all means. To give you some form of reference as a subject matter expert I would expect it would take me 6-7 hours to finish this outline off. However I am not rushing, the deadlines are days and days away and it might be for someone it takes 20 hours but they feel the money is worth it.

It's important to note that this work is subjective, making it difficult to establish objective measures like milestones. Quantity is also not a priority, as ten well-crafted bullet points can be more valuable than sixty poorly written ones. My main goal is to find a reliable collaborator with whom I can establish a productive workflow.
Ultimately, I am seeking an individual who can understand my voice and notes and turn them into outlines and presentations. Please be aware that there is no design work required, as the images and templates for these lessons have already been set. You'll simply be laying out text in a manner suitable for the content and lesson, making decisions about bullet point text and length, and speaker notes. However, I am not asking you to create any drawings, colouring or graphics. You may suggest graphics to include, but please provide links to the originals, as the course designer will need to recreate them for copyright purposes.
For the fist piece of work it would be good if you spread the hours over a few days so I can give you feedback as you go and then when I have found the perfect person I am hoping I don't need to check anything just wait for final delivery.
