We are seeking a talented and passionate Freelance Newspaper Reporter to join our team. As a reporter, you will play a vital role in gathering and writing one to two weekly articles centered around the senior community in Ventura, CA. Your articles will cover a range of topics including local events, senior organizations, health and wellness, senior living, retirement, and other aspects of senior life in our community.
Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough research and interviews to gather information for your articles
Write engaging, informative, and accurate articles targeting the senior community in Ventura
Attend relevant community events and conduct on-site reporting when necessary
Develop a network of contacts within the senior community to stay informed about relevant news and events
Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure the content aligns with the newspaper's style and standards
Adhere to deadlines and manage time effectively to deliver high-quality articles on a weekly basis
Stay up-to-date with trends and developments in senior news and lifestyle to bring fresh and relevant content to our readers
Requirements:
Proven experience as a reporter, preferably in the field of community journalism or senior news
Strong writing and storytelling skills with the ability to produce engaging and informative articles
Excellent research and interview skills to gather accurate information from various sources
Familiarity with AP style and ability to adhere to the newspaper's editorial guidelines
Knowledge of senior issues, lifestyle, and interests, particularly within the Ventura community
Self-motivated and organized with the ability to meet deadlines consistently
Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for research and remote collaboration
Ability to work independently and remotely, while maintaining effective communication with the editorial team
