The Oryx and Crake Trinity

Crake Creates. Oryx Teaches. Snowman Prophesies. This “holy
trinity” of sorts will come to dominate the ideology of the Crakers as they move forward for
generations. Explain what you think their religious lives will look like. What will they call the
members of the trinity (creator, savior, storyteller, teacher, fill in the blank with your own
interesting ideas...)? What will these 3 people become symbolically for the Crakers? What sorts
of beliefs and rituals will emerge as the Craker religion is formed (what will you call that religion,
how will it be structured? How will it form Craker culture? Look at human history for
inspiration.) Make a presentation that has interesting visuals (think symbols, ceremonies,
ceremonial attire); consider depicting a short Craker ritual and conclude by speculating on what
you think Atwood wants us to understand about ourselves in her depiction of the Crakers as
they begin to use their curiosity to create a belief system
