I’m creating a picture book that follows a Jewish girl from birth through her first years in Hebrew school, capturing the moment when the Yiddish and Hebrew phrases she has always heard finally click for her. To bring that journey to life I need a set of clean, simple watercolor illustrations rendered in a realistic style but with a happy, playful vibe that will keep young readers engaged.
The scenes move naturally from home to school and into broader community moments, so I’ll rely on you to suggest light, age-appropriate backgrounds that support each setting without overwhelming the main characters. Soft washes, gentle color palettes, and subtle cultural details—mezuzahs on doorframes, alef-bet posters in class, familiar street signs in the neighborhood—will help ground the story while still feeling fresh and uncluttered.
