solenoid controller

We have an arduino uno micro controller with a H bridge shield driving a solenoid. I need the core of the solenoid to oscillate at a fast rate in and out, unfortunately my coding experience is fairly limited so I have hit a stumbling block. We have the armature of the solenoid oscillating but require the ability to vary the rate thru small changes in the code. Is this possible ?
