Smart Aquarium Dosing Pump Product Development
Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR
Role: End-to-End Hardware + Firmware + PCB + Enclosure Designer
Project: Automatic Smart dosing pump for Aquarium
Freelancer Location : India , Prefferably Chennai
Overview
Fish Tech Focus is building an India-made, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth-enabled smart aquarium dosing controller in two variants (2-pump and 4-pump). The benchmark is the Chihiros Dosing Pump System (~₹11,000 imported). We are looking for a single highly capable freelancer to take the project from virtual prototype all the way through to a tested PCBA and a 3D-printed enclosure, across four sequential phases.
What You'll Do
Phase 1: Design and build a virtual prototype in Tinkercad/Wokwi and a physical prototype on perfboard/breadboard using locally sourced India components. Recommend commercial-grade BOM choices as this is a product intended for retail sale.
Phase 2: Courier the working physical prototype to the Client. Provide all documentation (schematic, BOM, firmware source, test report, calibration guide). Support Client testing and fix any issues found.
Phase 3: Convert the validated prototype into a production-intent PCB schematic and layout (KiCad preferred). All components sourced from JLCPCB's LCSC library to enable PCBA. Provide JLCPCB-ready Gerbers, BOM (CPL format), and order checklist. Order and test a pilot batch of 5 boards.
Phase 4: Design a waterproof IP54+ enclosure with Fish Tech Focus branding (logo + tagline), PCB standoffs, concealed connectors, and wall/shelf mounting. Deliver STEP + STL files and one 3D-printed prototype.
Commit all files (code, schematics, BOMs, 3D models, test reports) to the Client's Git repository throughout.
Hardware Stack
ESP32-WROOM-32, DS3231 RTC, 16×2 I2C LCD, optocoupler relay modules (2-ch / 4-ch), logic-level MOSFET per channel with 10kΩ gate pull-down (mandatory safety net), 12V DC peristaltic pumps, screw-terminal connectivity throughout, LM2596 buck converter, BIS-approved SMPS adapter.
Firmware Features
ESP32 (Arduino IDE or ESP-IDF), Wi-Fi captive portal provisioning (no hardcoded credentials), local web dashboard, per-pump scheduling (RTC-backed, ml-based), calibration wizard, manual dose, manual prime (continuous run until stopped), configurable max-runtime safety cutoff with buzzer alarm, missed-schedule push notifications, watchdog, brown-out protection, NVS-persisted settings.
Requirements
Demonstrated ESP32 IoT product experience
JLCPCB PCBA workflow experience (LCSC BOM, CPL, assembly)
KiCad or EasyEDA proficiency
Firmware: Arduino/ESP-IDF, Wi-Fi provisioning, web server, FreeRTOS basics
Strong documentation skills
Git commits for all deliverables
Willing to support Client testing and fix issues before phase sign-off
Engagement Terms
Milestone-based payment. All IP transfers to Fish Tech Focus. NDA required before start. No sub-contracting without written approval.
