Outdoor Bark-Detection/Audio-Triggering Device Development
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I'm seeking an engineer/developer to create a device that detects dog barks and triggers ultrasonic speakers and standard loudspeakers. The primary purpose of this device is to prevent excessive barking when my neighbors dogs are outdoors. I intend to piece this together from components readily available online.
Key Requirements:
- Device should be capable of outdoor usage in all weather
- The device needs to be powered by an electric outlet.
- Experience with audio technology and sound modulation needed.
- The device needs to be able to be assembled from components readily available
Your task will be to design a device that is effective at preventing barking using sound. This includes the use of ultrasonic speakers which are inaudible to humans but can be heard by dogs. The ultrasonic sound blasts should happen instantaneously when the device detects my neighbors dog(s) barking. The sensitivity should be adjustable; I don't want it going off when dogs far away bark. The device should also trigger standard loudspeakers to play a brief clip from the annoying rap song "Who Let the Dogs Out" whenever the device detects my neighbors dogs barking for more than 10 seconds. The intention is to embarrass my neighbors so maybe they will take their dogs inside if they start barking.
The device needs to use directional microphones to pick up only my neighbor's dogs barking. It should not activate from any other sound, such as my neighbors talking or listening to music. This may require machine learning; I am not sure. I need to source microphones. This device will cover a fairly wide area and may require multiple microphones, long cables, and several high-powered ultrasonic speaker arrays. If this is a way to make the system wireless, other than the power source, that would be very convenient.
I need to source ultrasonic speakers. Ultrasonic speakers tend to be unidirectional and narrow in focus. I may create a curved array so that the distribution pattern is wide leaving no quiet zones in the area of interest. The speakers must be extremely powerful to fully penetrate the area of interest. I will need to determine how to power them and shelter them from the weather.
I don't know, but I'm guessing this might be a good job for Arduino but I'm open to suggestions.
Please provide examples of your work with your application.
