ESP32 Smart Plug Prototype Creation
Budget: $500 – $800 USD
Job Description:
I am looking for an experienced electronics/embedded systems engineer to build a working prototype for a product called PlugSmart Saver. The goal is to create a renter-safe smart plug that:
Core Features:
Monitors real-time power usage (AC mains)
Converts energy consumption to dollar cost
Automatically shuts off power via a relay when idle or over limit
Reads temperature for safety and shuts off in overheat situations
Sends data to a Wi-Fi connected app/dashboard
Deliverables:
Fully working ESP32-based prototype on breadboard or PCB
Schematics and wiring diagram
Firmware that can:
Read energy data from HLW8012/ATM90E26 or equivalent
Control relay based on simple rules
Report data over Wi-Fi
Optional: Basic test script to demonstrate functionality with a low-voltage dummy load
Required Skills:
ESP32 development (Arduino IDE or equivalent)
AC mains relay integration (safe, isolated)
Experience with energy monitoring ICs
Understanding of safety standards for prototype electronics
Preferred Skills:
PCB design experience
Prior IoT or smart home device development
Ability to provide recommendations for enclosure layout
Budget: $500–$800 (adjustable based on experience and milestones)
Timeline: 3–4 weeks to working prototype
Notes:
Prototype is for testing and demonstration purposes only. No mass production yet.
