The purpose of this phase is to explore form, proportion, roof geometry, and architectural intent before committing to detailed documentation.
1. Project Intent
Develop concept designs for a small Australian Federation–inspired rural cabin located in rural Gippsland, Victoria, within rolling hills and open grazing country.
The cabin is intended to function as:
A basecamp / living hut during staged rural development
A future guest or short-stay cabin
A permanent, robust rural structure – not a tiny house or novelty build
The design should draw from:
Australian bush huts
Federation-era rural buildings
Honest materials and clear structural expression
This is a restrained, timeless building, not a stylised replica or decorative pastiche.
2. Site & Orientation (Conceptual)
Rural Gippsland setting
Rolling hills / open grazing country
Long elevation oriented to capture views and morning light
Building raised on stumps or piers
Verandah and internal floor to be on the same finished level
Exact siting is flexible at concept stage.
3. Overall Form & Character
Building Form
Simple rectangular footprint. Single room. no wc or bathroom.
Steep gable roof over the main cabin
Clearly separate verandah roof attached to the long elevation
Verandah roof visually and structurally subordinate to the main roof
