Remote "in case of emergency" notification system
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I wish to set up a remote “in case of emergency” contact system. Can you propose a pathway?
Here are the set-up, the requirements, some hardware I can afford, and some preliminary thoughts.
There are 2 locations:
Location 1): A living alone elder needing monitoring; owns an iPhone 10R and a MacBook Air -
has “wifi”
Location 2): The "emergency contact" person lives at Location 2. The “in case of emergency”
contact system (based on a MacMini) is located at “Location 2” in hearing range of the
emergency contact person. The emergency contact person at Location2 has phones,
computers, and "wifi"
Requirements
The contact system is “on” all the time
Once every 24 hours the system at Location 2 (based on a MacMini) begins sending a series
of 10 text messages spaced 5 minutes apart to the elder’s iPhone 10R
Each text messages contains a “live” link
If the elder replies to one of the text messages by touching the live link, the "system"
terminates that series of text messages and records the time and date of the reply in a
"folder. The system rests for the remainder of that 24 hours.
If the "elder" does not reply to one of the 10 text messages by touching the “link”, the system
a) sends a text message to the phone (or phones) of the emergency contact person at
Location 2 saying that “the elder” has not replied to the latest series of contact
attempts.
b) sends a pre-written email message to the email address(es) of the emergency
contact.
c) sounds an alarm - a chosen sound or piece of music - loudly thru its speaker or
accessory speaker
Desirable option: the “elder” can “sound the alarm” consciously independent of not
answering the “live link”.
On line at Walmart for $188.95
Apple Mac mini - Core i5 2.5 GHz - RAM 4 GB - HDD 500 GB - HD Graphics 4000 - GigE -
WLAN: 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 - macOS Catalina 10.15 - monitor: none
Online at Amazon for $15.98:
[Upgraded] USB Computer Speaker, Laptop Speaker with Stereo Sound & Enhanced Bass,
Portable Mini Sound Bar for Windows PCs, Desktop Computer and Laptops
Questions:
Can this be done using the referenced Mac Mini?
What are the programming requirements? How can the programming be obtained?
What would be the cost?
Does the remote system at Location 2 require a new dedicated phone line?
or can that be avoided using internet connection only?
