Visual Novel-making engine for the Nintendo DS (C/C++) - 12/10/2023 00:47 EDT
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I am a hobbyist game developer who would like to make games for the Nintendo DS, specifically visual novels. I've tried and failed to learn C++ and setting up the environment for coding. There are a few guides to using devkitpro, which has the library and compiler online, but most are out of date by a decade. I'm looking for someone who can set up an app for making simple DS games with specific functions (listed below). This app should be visual in nature, so that beginners like myself can use it--for example I've made games with GB Studio and Game Maker, so something like that.
The specific functions I would like for the app/engine would be:
-Dialog boxes*
-Layered background images
-Changing of backgrounds
-Fade in/Fade out
-Save states/load (could be just saving 10ish global variables)
-Animated sprites
-Maybe cutscenes??
-Maybe stylus input (like drawing??)
I'm inspired by the Hotel Dusk games, where the player holds the Nintendo DS sideways, and would like the dialog boxes to be able to turn 90/-90 degrees for sideways playing. Anyways, I have no idea how long this could take, or how much it'll cost, so I would love to have some pitches.
****UPDATE: I had a previous freelancer work on those project, but they never finished. The GitHub is here: https://github.com/jaredchansen/DSStudio
If you want to keep building where they left off, that's fine, or if you want to start from scratch that works too. ****
