API for cartography purposes

You will responsible for prepare API (probably REST API) for map legend creation. As you probably know, a map legend consists of many small pictures (raster) with symbols and descriptions (raster as well). The API will get some information dealing with legend like size (i.e. (x cm* y cm), A4, A0, wall banner), style (version of rasters), layout (i.e 1,2,3 4 columns, horizontal or vertical), language, output resolution, set of objects (corresponding with pictures) to build legend. The client will sent data like above and on server (with our API) will produce map legend raster in particular size, in style and layout, with symbols corresponding with given set of objects. The server will produce legend graphic and will send it to the client. The legend construction component is to be worked out during this project. Resources will be provided (you don't have to prepare graphics of legend components). The solution has to be run on linux (Debian). Keep in mind that it's general description.
