Thorough QA Engineer Needed: Spring Boot (Java) API Testing via Postman (Code-Review & Documentation Required)
Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR
We are looking for a meticulous, detail-oriented QA Automation/Manual Tester to thoroughly test a backend product service. The service is built using Java and the Spring Framework.
The primary goal of this project is not just surface-level testing, but a deep, exhaustive validation of the service's logic. You will be given access to the codebase, and you are expected to read and analyze the code to uncover edge cases, hidden assumptions, and potential failure points.
Testing will be conducted entirely via Postman.
The service consists of a total of 64 endpoints that need full coverage:
GET: 39
PUT: 15
DELETE: 5
Key Responsibilities & Requirements:
1) Code-Driven Test Creation: You must read the Java/Spring source code to understand the business logic, validation rules, error handling, and data models. You will design your test cases based on this code review—not just a basic API spec.
2) Exhaustive Test Coverage: You must create and execute all possible test cases, including:
- Happy paths (positive testing)
- Negative testing (invalid inputs, missing fields, type mismatches)
- Edge cases and boundary value analysis (e.g., limits on string lengths, numeric ranges)
- Error handling and correct HTTP status code verification (400, 401, 404, 422, 500, etc.)
3) Mandatory Visual Proof: Every single test case executed must be documented with a clear screenshot (SS) of the Postman request and response.
4) Comprehensive Documentation: You will deliver a fully documented test suite written in clear, professional English. Each test case must explicitly outline:
- Test Case ID & Title
- Description / Objective
- Pre-requisites (if any)
- Step-by-Step Execution Instructions
- Input Data / Payload
- Expected Result (including response body structure and status codes)
- Actual Result
Deliverables Expected
1) Postman Collection & Environment: A fully organized, exported JSON file of the Postman Collection (with folders structured by endpoint) and the corresponding Environment variables file.
2) Test Case Run Document: A clean Google Doc, Word, or Markdown document containing the detailed step-by-step test cases, including the mandatory screenshots for every single test run.
3) Bug Report (If applicable): A concise list of any discovered bugs, complete with steps to reproduce, severity, and payloads used.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience testing Java Spring Boot REST APIs.
- Advanced proficiency with Postman (familiarity with writing Postman pre-request scripts or test assertions is a massive plus).
- Ability to read and understand Java code fluently to deduce testing boundaries.
- Excellent technical writing skills for flawless documentation.
- Strong communication and a sharp eye for detail.
Bug Fix & Retesting Cycle:
Please note that this project includes a retesting phase:
- Reporting: Once you identify and document a bug, you will report it to us.
- Fix & Deploy: Our development team will fix the reported issues and deploy the updated code.
- Verification (Mandatory): You will be required to re-run your Postman test cases against the updated service to ensure the bugs are completely resolved and that no regressions (new bugs) were introduced. New screenshots showing the successful fix will be required for the final documentation.
How to Apply:
When bidding, please briefly describe your experience with Spring Boot API testing and Postman. If you have a sample test documentation format you've used in the past, please share a snippet or description of it.
Payment:
1) Milestone 1 (50%): Code review, initial test case creation, first round of testing, and initial bug report submission.
2) Milestone 2 (50%): Retesting after bug fixes, updating screenshots, and final delivery of the approved Postman collection and documentation.
PLEASE NOTE: MAX BUDGET 4K, YOUR BIDDING PRICE WILL BE CONSIDERED YOUR FINAL PRICE. NO NEGOTIATIONS WILL BE ENTERTAINED AFTER YOU BID.
