Debian Camera Monitoring Server
Budget: $30 – $250 CAD
I want a clean Ubuntu 24.04 (Debian-based) install turned into a central hub for the video coming from my Hiseeu NVR. The goal is simple: any time I click an icon or bookmark I should land on a web page that shows every camera live, lets me scrub back through stored footage, and works just as well from a desktop browser as it does on a phone.
I’m not sure yet whether it makes more sense to repurpose an existing box or start from scratch, so I’ll lean on your advice there. The same goes for the NVR’s API or ONVIF capabilities—I may need you to confirm what is available and then wire it up.
Deliverables
• A fully configured Ubuntu 24.04 server (or guidance on fresh install vs. reuse)
• Integration with the Hiseeu NVR so all camera streams record and play back reliably
• Browser-based interface that’s responsive for desktop and mobile, with a one-click desktop shortcut/icon to open it
• Recording retention settings I can tweak, plus clear storage-use indicators
• Step-by-step hand-off notes: how to add/remove cameras, restart services, and reach the interface remotely
Feel free to bring in tools such as Docker, ZoneMinder, Shinobi, MotionEye, or another stack you trust, as long as they run stably on 24.04 and keep maintenance light.
