Software Developer for Bank Feed Integration

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to design, implement, and maintain secure bank feed integrations between financial institutions and our accounting software. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Plaid APIs and a solid understanding of accounting systems, transaction processing, and financial data workflows.
This role will be responsible not only for connecting bank feeds, but also for ensuring transactions are accurately categorized, reconciled, and integrated into the general ledger.
Key Responsibilities
Bank Feed Integration
Analyze existing system architecture and define integration requirements.
Configure and manage Plaid environments (Sandbox, Development, Production).
Implement Plaid products including Transactions, Auth, and Identity (as required).
Develop secure authentication workflows using Plaid Link, including token exchange and MFA handling.
Configure webhooks and ensure reliable transaction synchronization.
Accounting System Integration
Map bank transaction data to internal accounting fields (date, amount, description, account, merchant, category).
Build processes for importing transactions into the accounting system while preventing duplicates.
Ensure support for multiple bank accounts and multiple entities.
Transaction Categorization & Coding
Design and implement accounting categorization features, including:
GL account assignment
Cost centers, departments, projects, or funds
Tax codes (e.g., GST/HST, VAT)
Develop automated categorization rules based on merchant, description, account, or amount.
Enable user-defined rules and manual overrides.
Support transaction splitting across multiple accounts.
Ensure categorized transactions flow correctly into the General Ledger, bank reconciliations, and financial reports.
Maintain audit trails for categorization and coding changes.
Automation, Monitoring & Error Handling
Implement scheduled and on-demand transaction syncing.
Handle expired tokens, authentication failures, and API rate limits.
Develop monitoring and alerting for failed connections or data sync issues.
Provide reconnection and recovery workflows.
Testing, Compliance & Security
Conduct testing in all Plaid environments prior to production deployment.
Validate transaction accuracy, edge cases (refunds, reversals, pending items), and categorization logic.
Ensure compliance with data security standards and regulations (SOC 2, PIPEDA, GDPR where applicable).
Implement secure credential handling, role-based access controls, and audit logging.
Documentation & Support
Prepare technical documentation, setup guides, and troubleshooting materials.
Provide knowledge transfer and training to IT and Finance teams.
Support post-deployment monitoring, enhancements, and onboarding of additional financial institutions.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience integrating Plaid APIs in production environments.
Strong backend development skills (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, or similar).
Experience working with accounting systems and financial data, including GL structures and transaction coding.
Solid understanding of secure API design, OAuth/token-based authentication, and webhook architectures.
Familiarity with bank reconciliation, transaction processing, and financial reporting workflows.
Strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
