Roku Live Sports Channels App
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I need a developer who can build a polished Roku TV application that streams multiple live sports and event channels. The core experience is straightforward: a viewer launches the app, signs in, lands on an intuitive channel guide, and immediately starts watching uninterrupted, high-quality live feeds.
Key features I must have
• User login & authentication – token-based, with secure storage of credentials.
• Channel guide – a familiar EPG grid that pulls programme data from my JSON/REST endpoint and updates in real time.
• In-app advertisements – mid-roll and pre-roll using Roku Advertising Framework, with dynamic ad stitching (VAST / VMAP).
Technical expectations
BrightScript / SceneGraph are required, and I expect HLS streams with adaptive bitrate support. The player should gracefully recover from network hiccups and display helpful error states. Analytics hooks for play, pause, ad start and ad complete events are also important so I can plug them into Google Analytics or a similar service.
Deliverables
1. Complete Roku channel package (.pkg) ready for submission to the Roku Channel Store.
2. Source code with clear comments and build instructions.
3. Documentation covering API endpoints consumed, ad tags used, and any hidden settings.
4. A short test plan showing how you validated login, ad playback and guide accuracy.
Acceptance criteria
• Successful login with valid credentials; refused access with invalid credentials.
• Channel guide loads within three seconds on a typical home connection.
• Streams play at the highest possible bitrate without buffering for at least five consecutive minutes in QA.
• Ads report impressions and quartile events correctly to the ad server.
If you have shipped similar live-TV apps on Roku before, please point me to them and outline the libraries or frameworks you used. I’m ready to start as soon as I find the right fit.
