RFID People Tracking System
Budget: $5,000 – $10,000 AUD
I’m looking to build a custom RFID-based solution that continually tracks people as they move through our facility. The main objective is to be able to pair one RFID tag to up to four tags that need to maintain a minimum distance of 5 metres at all times. If one of the tags moves more than 5m away from the "Master" tag, generate an RFID alarm to receivers located around the facility.
Here’s what I need from you: an end-to-end design that covers hardware selection (tags suitable for being worn comfortably, fixed readers, antennas, and any edge devices), network layout, and the software layer that aggregates the raw reads into clean, queryable data. The application should display location histories, generate entry/exit logs, and trigger distance-based alerts when two tags depart from a configurable threshold. A lightweight dashboard or API is fine so long as I can export the data to downstream analytics tools.
To keep things practical, I’ll want recommendations on the most appropriate RFID technology (active, passive UHF, or hybrid) along with justifications around read range, battery life, reader density, and interference handling. Once we settle on the spec, we’ll move to a proof-of-concept build inside a single floor, use that to validate accuracy, then scale to the rest of the premises.
Acceptance criteria
• Real-time location updates with ≤2 s latency
• Accurate entry/exit timestamps at each doorway checkpoint
• Proximity calculation between any two active tags, refreshed in real time
• Exportable data (CSV or REST endpoint) covering the three metrics above
