Job Description: Java Banner Specialist (Work Support)

Role Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled Java Banner Specialist to provide development and support for enterprise Banner applications. The role involves working across multiple technologies including Java, PL/SQL, APIs, and Tomcat servers to ensure seamless integration, performance, and reliability of Banner systems. The specialist will also handle troubleshooting, scripting, and deployment activities in coordination with functional and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, enhance, and support Banner applications using Java and PL/SQL.
Manage and configure Tomcat servers for application deployment and maintenance.
Design and integrate REST and SOAP APIs to connect Banner with external systems.
Develop and maintain shell scripts for automation, deployment, and monitoring tasks.
Perform functional and regression testing of application changes and integrations.
Utilize Gitea or other version control tools for code management and collaboration.
Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement permanent fixes.
Collaborate with DBAs, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure system stability.
Participate in performance tuning, code reviews, and environment configuration.
Required Skills:
Strong hands-on experience in Java and PL/SQL development.
Proficiency with Tomcat application servers.
Experience with Banner ERP system (Ellucian) modules and integration.
Solid understanding of REST and SOAP-based APIs.
Experience in shell scripting for automation and server management.
Exposure to testing frameworks and test automation practices.
Familiarity with Gitea or similar version control tools (Git, Bitbucket).
Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
Experience with Oracle databases and performance tuning.
Understanding of Higher Education ERP environments.
Knowledge of deployment automation and CI/CD tools.
Good communication skills for working with cross-functional and remote teams.
