Corrugated Packaging Platform Design
Budget: £1,500 – £3,000 GBP
I’m building an API-driven, multi-sided platform that makes bespoke corrugated packaging feel like a default utility inside any 3PL onboarding flow. It is not an open marketplace; instead, it should serve as underlying operational infrastructure that quietly powers quoting, ordering, and fulfilment between three distinct user groups: buyers, manufacturers, and 3PL providers.
Core workflow
• Buyers arrive inside their 3PL’s portal, request packaging, and instantly see real-time quotes pulled directly from connected manufacturers.
• They can compare options at a glance—capacity and current lead times are surfaced automatically—then commit with one click.
• The moment an order is placed, the system routes it to the chosen manufacturer, updates status milestones, and feeds confirmations, labels, and ASN data back to the 3PL WMS so warehouse teams can stay in their own screens.
Essential capabilities we must ship
• Real-time quotes from manufacturers (price, capacity, lead time).
• Automated order management that tracks every step without manual email chains.
• Out-of-the-box integration hooks (REST / webhooks, EDI if needed) so 3PLs can embed the flow during customer onboarding without custom code each time.
User roles & access
• Buyers see pricing, capacity, lead times, and order history.
• Manufacturers manage quotes, capacity updates, and production status.
• 3PL providers monitor order progress and receive shipping data directly into their WMS/TMS.
Tech expectations
I’m open on language and framework, but the architecture must be modular, secure, and ready for high-volume API calls. Think React or Vue on the front end, Node.js or similar on the back, PostgreSQL (or equivalent) for data, and clear documentation for all endpoints. The interface should feel light and purpose-built rather than e-commerce heavy.
Deliverables
1. Clickable prototype that demonstrates the full quote-to-order journey.
2. Technical specification covering data models, key APIs, and integration points for 3PL systems.
3. MVP build (frontend, backend, and database schema) ready for pilot deployment.
4. Deployment guide and developer documentation.
Acceptance criteria
• A buyer connected through a demo 3PL account can generate a quote in under 10 seconds.
• Capacity and lead-time data refresh without manual refreshes.
• An order placed in the UI appears in the manufacturer dashboard and pushes a status webhook to the 3PL endpoint within 3 seconds.
• All endpoints secured via token-based auth and pass a basic penetration test.
