Project Overview
We are building an AI system that detects how users communicate and adapts responses to match their cognitive style. The detection algorithms exist and function. Production infrastructure around them remains to be built.
Your work involves wrapping working algorithms in secure, scalable infrastructure that learns from real interactions over time.
Security matters here in ways it might not matter in other projects.
Technical Scope
Production API Implementation
Take existing detection code. Build REST endpoints around it. Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, rate limiting. Secure API key management throughout.
Learning Infrastructure
Build automatic data collection that logs every interaction. Create analytics tools for pattern identification and accuracy measurement. Develop processes for updating detection parameters. Provide documentation explaining how to analyze collected data and refine algorithms.
The infrastructure enables learning. We control when that learning happens and how it applies.
LLM Integration
Secure connection to Anthropic or OpenAI API. System sends detected user style with conversation context. Receives adaptive responses. Protects API keys and sensitive data in transit.
User Interface
Web-based chat interface. Real-time messaging with encryption. XSS and CSRF protection. Secure session management.
Infrastructure and Hosting
Database with encryption at rest and in transit. Secure hosting and deployment following best practices. Security event logging and monitoring. Regular update and patch management.
Security Requirements
Strong experience needed in most of these areas:
Data protection with encryption at rest and in transit. API security including authentication, authorization, rate limiting. Input validation preventing injection attacks, XSS, CSRF. Secure deployment practices covering SSL/TLS, secure headers, environment variable management. Access control and secure session handling. Security monitoring and logging. Careful dependency management and package vetting.
Security as foundation, not addition.
Technical Stack
Python or Node.js backend. Tools for data collection, analysis, enabling improvements over time. React or similar frontend. PostgreSQL or MongoDB with encryption. Anthropic Claude or OpenAI API integration. AWS, GCP, or Azure hosting with security best practices. SSL/TLS, OAuth/JWT, encryption libraries.

Developer Qualifications
Required:
Cybersecurity expertise with demonstrated experience building secure applications. Experience building systems that improve from user data through data pipelines and algorithm refinement processes. API development expertise wrapping existing code into production systems. Full-stack development capability. LLM API integration experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar. Secure data collection and encrypted storage experience.
Preferred:
Security certifications like CISSP, CEH, OSCP. Experience with AI systems that adapt based on user interactions. Background in adaptive or personalized systems. Startup experience with fast iteration cycles.
Working With Non-Technical Domain Experts
Adam and I are designing the detection algorithms. Our expertise is psychology and linguistics, not software engineering. We understand how human communication works at the cognitive and linguistic level. The algorithms reflect years of that understanding. The math is solid.
Production code requires your expertise.
This means:
We explain what the system detects and why it works. You recommend implementation approaches, architecture decisions, security measures, tooling choices. Clear communication matters because technical concepts need translation into language we understand. When explaining tradeoffs, plain language over jargon.
We provide:
Complete algorithm specifications and logic. Domain expertise in communication patterns. Fast decisions on product direction. Clear milestone acceptance criteria.
We need:
Technical implementation expertise. Architecture and tech stack recommendations. Security best practices. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers. Patience. Good communication skills.
This works well if you are comfortable being the technical expert working with domain experts who are not programmers. This works less well if you expect clients who review code or make architecture decisions independently.
Collaboration Structure
Direct collaboration with Sam and Adam. Both fully available. Weekly demos showing progress and security implementation. Payment across 5 milestones. Same-day feedback on questions. Security review at each milestone before payment. We provide detection code, you build secure production system around it.

Legal and Payment Terms
NDA required before sharing detection code. Work-for-hire agreement means all code belongs to client. Possible security audit before final payment. Payment through Upwork escrow, released within 3 days of milestone approval. Weekly video demos required showing functionality and security measures.
Security Priority Explanation
Need developer thinking security first, not adding it later. Must explain security decisions clearly. Stay current with best practices. Vet dependencies and packages carefully. Implement defense-in-depth so single layer failure does not compromise system.
