Centralized Versioned Backup System
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m looking to commission a complete backup solution that I can run and manage from a single console.
The system has to reach into Outlook—covering PST archives, live Exchange mailboxes and IMAP stores—and protect normal files and folders with full, incremental and differential jobs.
Key behaviour I need baked in from day one:
• A lightweight client or service that sits quietly on each machine, keeps resource use to a minimum and sends data only when changes occur.
• True version control: every revision of a file or message must be stored, searchable, and restorable so I can follow a change history, pick a specific version and roll it back instantly.
• Storage-agnostic targets: S3 buckets, an FTP destination and on-prem CIFS shares all have to work out of the box, with straightforward credentials management inside the console.
• A central dashboard where I schedule jobs, push policy updates, monitor status and trigger restores—ideally accessible through a web UI.
Client should be compatible with Windows Server 2012 onwards, Windows 10/11
A functional version, install instructions and concise admin/user documentation will be the final deliverables. If you already have experience with backup engines, block-level deduplication, or mail-item APIs, please let me know how you’d approach the build and what tech stack you prefer; I’m flexible as long as the result is reliable, clean and easy to maintain.
