Linux Administrator for Minecraft Server
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Project Type: Ongoing / Part-time (with potential for long-term)
Description:
We’re looking for a reliable Linux administrator to help manage and improve our server environment and handle ongoing administrative tasks. We operate a live, production server setup and need someone who’s comfortable working independently, documenting changes, and keeping things stable.
Minecraft server experience is a strong plus (especially performance tuning and backend troubleshooting), but solid Linux skills come first.
Key Responsibilities:
Linux server administration (updates, security hardening, service monitoring, backups)
Diagnose and resolve performance issues (CPU/RAM/disk/network), implement optimizations
Manage services and automation (systemd, cron, log rotation, alerting)
Troubleshoot connectivity issues (DNS, TCP/UDP, firewalls, reverse proxy/CDN/DDOS providers)
Support application/game server operations (Paper/Spigot/Velocity, plugin troubleshooting, JVM tuning) (plus)
Maintain clean documentation of changes, configs, and procedures
Required Skills:
Strong Linux administration experience (Ubuntu/Debian preferred)
Confident with SSH, permissions, filesystem management, and troubleshooting
Networking fundamentals (firewalls, ports, routing basics, DNS)
Log-driven problem solving (journalctl, application logs, metrics)
Security mindset (least privilege, patching, secure access)
Nice to Have (Big Bonus):
Minecraft backend experience (Paper/Spigot, Velocity/Bungee, plugin ecosystems)
Java/JVM performance tuning for Minecraft servers
Experience with panels/containers (Pterodactyl, Docker)
Monitoring/observability (Prometheus/Grafana, Netdata, Uptime Kuma, etc.)
SQL experience (MySQL/MariaDB) and optimization
Engagement / Expectations:
This is a real production environment—changes must be careful, tested, and documented.
We value stable operations over risky “quick fixes.”
Communication matters: clear updates, what changed, why, and rollback notes when relevant.
To Apply, Please Include:
A brief summary of your Linux admin experience (years + what you’ve managed).
Any Minecraft server ops experience (if applicable) and what you worked on (performance, plugins, networking, etc.).
Your availability (hours per week + timezone).
A short example of a tricky issue you diagnosed and how you approached it.
If you want it to pull even better candidates, add one line near the top stating what stack you use (e.g., Ubuntu version, panel, proxy, DDOS provider, monitoring) and whether this includes on-call emergency help or not. That single detail filters out a lot of noise.
