Htaccess Pro needed

I have a website that uses the X-cart 5.4.1.35 shopping cart. Everything is configured, I have a SSL installed and everything seems to be working properly except the CLEAN URL function. The Mod rewrite is on in Apache. I have a VPS so I have total control over everything but no matter what I add to enable the clean urls I'm getting the too many redirects error and I have to remove code from htaccess and turn off clean urls. I need someone to troubleshoot this clean URL issue to make the URL's seo friendly. I have tried this: https://support.x-cart.com/en/articles/5209992-http-to-https-redirect-configuration and it doesn't solve the problem. I even copied the mod rewrite part of a site that is hosted with X-cart and I still get the too many redirects. I think I'm just overlooking something. Help?
