PSYC221 Data Analyses and Results Draft
This week you will practice analyzing the data you have collected so far for your final project. Don’t worry if you have not reached 30+ participants yet, the analysis should be the exact same no matter the number of participants (meaning if you can complete it once for this assignment, you’ll know exactly how to analyze the data for the final paper!)
1) Download the most recent version of your survey data from Google Forms as an Excel spreadsheet. Take a screenshot of your Excel before you clean it up and paste it here.
2) Import your Excel spreadsheet into SPSS and save it as an .sav file. Go to Variable View and set the variable types and variable names as needed. (If you have trouble uploading the file, save the Excel spreadsheet as a .csv file and upload it to SPSS as .csv file)
3) Clean up and organize your data as needed. The steps required will depend on your individual project and data. You might need to:
-ensure the coding of each variable is consistent (e.g., all male participants are coded as M, not a mixture of M / m / Male / male)
-change verbal labels to numbers if needed (e.g., Strongly Agree to 7, Agree to 6, etc. )
-reverse code some questions if needed (e.g., change 0 to 4, 1 to 3, 2 to 2, 3 to 1, 4 to 0)
-calculate the sum or mean of several responses to create a “score” or “index” value if needed
Take a screenshot of your Excel or SPSS after you clean it up and paste it here.
4) Run descriptive analyses on all relevant variables.
5) Run inferential analyses (One must be ANOVA or Regression)
6) Create appropriate graphs (e.g., bar graph, line graph, scatterplot)
7) Draft an APA-style results statement for the analysis, including all necessary values (degrees of freedom, p-value, etc.)
8) Start writing a draft of the Results section. It should be in APA format. It needs to have the results of your analysis (ANOVA/Regression required) written up in APA format with graphs for each analysis done. The Results section should be 1-2 pages. Graphs should be referenced in the results section but will go at the end of the paper OR can be placed at the end of the results section.
