Crime Rate Notification based on geographical location

I'm looking to create a crime rate notification system that focuses on the local area. I'm mainly looking to be notified of violent crimes, and would prefer to receive my notifications through an email. This system would be incredibly helpful in providing up to date information to help people stay safe in their areas.
