Update native Android application and backend

We wish to update the Android app to use Twilio/SMS for registration instead of username/password. We want a similar registration process as whatsapp and no password.
We also want to modify the code to use an open source alternative to Firebase, it's currently using Firebase.
The backend server is also running Java and needs to be modified to work with the new user database (from Firebase).
