Android App (Kotlin): Scan Barcode, Take Photos, Upload to SFTP (Internal Use Only)
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
Description:
We need a custom Android app built for internal use on Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro tablets. The app will allow warehouse staff to scan a barcode, enter their name, take photos, and upload those photos to a local SFTP server in a folder named after the scanned barcode.
This app will not be published to the Play Store and must be delivered as an APK for internal sideload installation.
Requirements:
General:
Developed in Kotlin using Android Studio
Target Android 10+
Designed for portrait mode only
Tablet model: Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro
Functionality:
Launch app and prompt the user to scan a barcode using the device camera.
After scanning, sanitize the barcode text (remove characters not allowed in folder names).
Prompt the user to enter their name via a simple input field.
Allow the user to take multiple photos (up to 999).
After each photo, display it as a thumbnail.
User must be able to zoom in and delete photos before uploading.
When the user taps "Finish", the app should:
Create a folder on the SFTP server named after the sanitized barcode.
Upload all photos to that folder using the filename format:
[BARCODE]_001.jpg, [BARCODE]_002.jpg, etc.
After upload, display a success message and return to the scan screen.
SFTP Details:
Upload must use SFTP, not FTP
Server is on a local network (192.168.0.xxx), credentials will be provided
Use a stable, well-supported SFTP client library such as JSch or similar
Ensure filenames and folder names are UTF-8 safe
App Distribution:
This app will be sideloaded internally and hosted via a URL like:
http://192.168.0.10/app/myapp.apk
Developer must:
Sign the APK with a custom key
Provide both release and debug builds
Version APKs clearly (e.g., app-v1.0.apk, app-v1.1.apk)
Optional Feature (quote separately):
Offline mode: if the SFTP server is unreachable, store uploads locally and retry later
Deliverables:
Complete Android Studio project (written in Kotlin)
Signed APK for testing and production
README with:
Setup and install instructions
FTP config instructions
Build instructions for future updates
To Apply:
Please provide:
Your experience with barcode scanning, Android camera use, and FTP/SFTP integration
Examples of similar Android apps you've built (GitHub links or APKs preferred)
Your estimated timeline for completion
Whether you are including offline support in your bid
