Fix Background GPS Tracking (Capacitor App) – Keep Location Active When App Minimized or Screen Off
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
We have a ride-hailing app built with React + Capacitor (Android).
Currently, the driver’s GPS stops sending updates when the app is minimized or the screen is locked. As a result, the driver disappears from the passenger map until the app is reopened.
We need someone to implement background GPS tracking so that:
Location keeps updating even when the app is minimized or the screen is off.
Foreground service runs with a persistent notification (“Sharing location”).
The app is excluded from Android battery optimization if possible.
Works smoothly on Android 10+ (tested on latest versions).
The solution must send location updates to our API/WebSocket every few seconds.
Tech Stack:

Hosting: VPS (Ubuntu)

Make background location tracking stable for drivers. If the driver locks the phone or switches apps, their position should still update in real time for passengers.
