Android TV Launcher Development
Budget: $250 – $750 CAD
I need a fresh launcher for my Android TV box whose single, non-negotiable purpose is to open any installed Android app quickly and reliably. At start-up the launcher should scan the device, surface every app icon, and let users jump straight into their chosen tool, stream, or game with no whitelists or restrictions. Navigation must feel effortless on a D-pad remote, with crisp, television-friendly visuals that load fast and look clean on a large screen.
You’re free to build in Kotlin or Java and to use Jetpack TV, Leanback, or Compose for TV if that speeds things up; just make sure you implement the standard launcher intent filters so the box recognises it as the default home screen. I’ll be testing on an Amlogic S905X3 unit running Android 9, so optimise memory use and aim for a sub-two-second cold start.
Deliverables
• Signed APK ready for sideloading
• Full, well-commented source code
Acceptance criteria: the launcher lists every installed app, launches at least twenty randomly chosen apps without crashing, and recovers gracefully when an app is uninstalled or updated.
