I want to build a lightweight antivirus scanner for Android that focuses on solid threat detection while keeping things effortless for the end user. The app must present a single, clean screen with only the essentials—status indicator, scan button, concise alerts, and a progress bar—so the overall look stays simple and minimalistic.
Automatic updates are mandatory: virus-definition files, engine tweaks, and any minor patches should download and apply themselves silently in the background. Users should never have to trigger them manually.
If you can keep performance snappy and battery usage low, I’m open to additional safeguards such as real-time monitoring, scheduled scans, or a small quarantine vault, provided they don’t clutter the interface.
Deliverables
• Production-ready APK plus signed release build
• Full Kotlin/Java source with readable comments
• Background update service tied to a definition server I can configure
• Basic unit tests that cover scan routines and the update workflow
Acceptance criteria
1. Installs on Android 8.0+ without warnings.
2. Completes a full device scan in under five minutes on a midrange phone.
3. Fetches and applies definition updates automatically on first launch and at defined intervals after.
4. Presents a single-screen UI with no more than one additional dialog for settings or permissions.
