Job ID: 33097492

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Today, Target operates near 1,700 stores in 49 states, including more than 240 SuperTarget® stores that include an upscale grocery shopping experience. The Target shopping experience has consistently centered on a strong guest focused commitment, reflected in the current “Expect More. Pay Less.” brand promise. Target, similar to several commercial stores, are using their own internal data and public available data as a competitive advantage. Target is interested in knowing whether or not census characteristics correlate with higher or poorer performance stores. Further, they are interested that given the economy has shifted demographics and population growth patterns over the years, can the census data assist in identifying the characteristics of the design and size of an optimal store

Target—discovering whether census data correlate with higher or poorer performance stores (1645 stores and 136 variables)

In terms of publicly available data one source Target uses is Census data. In the Demographics.xls file are Census data for each Target store including the yellow column which is the year to date (2009) sales for that store in that row. (Note: column names starting with an X represent estimates).
