Migrate, Optimize & Structure Shopify Catalogue

Job ID: 39487724

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

Project Brief: Shopify Product Migration & Data Structuring (950 SKUs approx 450 already present on Shopify, 500 not yet present )

Refurbished IT Hardware (Laptops, Desktops, AV)

Overview

We are seeking a specialist Shopify freelancer or agency to execute a complete product catalogue migration for a client in the refurbished IT equipment space. The client has approximately 950 SKUs listed on Amazon of which 450 are currently active on their Shopify store. The 'missing' 500 need transferring over but all 950 require work, please see below.

The aim is to fully migrate the remaining catalogue into Shopify, ensuring that every listing including the ones already on Shopify are:

Cleaned and standardized

SEO-optimized

Structurally complete

And ready for future automation and AI-commerce integration (e.g., ChatGPT-based shopping).

This project is a core step in the client’s broader shift from marketplace reliance to direct-to-consumer operations, and lays the groundwork for future multi-channel syncing via Linnworks.

Scope of Work
1. Data Extraction & Cleansing
Extract SKUs and data from Amazon flat file exports

Clean HTML formatting, fix inconsistent characters or symbols, and remove Amazon-specific clutter.

Normalize key product data for consistent formatting (e.g., standardize “16GB RAM” vs “16 GB”).

2. Shopify Product Import
Use tools like Matrixify (Excelify) or LitExtension to manage and validate bulk imports.

Populate the following fields: title, description, price, stock, SKU, tags, collections, images, metafields.

Assign each product to its correct Shopify collection and tag structure for navigation and filtering.

3. Specification Table Structuring

Extract product specifications (RAM, CPU, SSD type, screen size, OS, etc.) into clean, structured formats.

Populate Shopify metafields or specification tables for front-end display.

Where product data is incomplete, apply common-sense logic to fill in obvious details based on model numbers or known specs.

4. Filterable Attributes & Tagging

The Shopify store uses customer-facing filters for:

Brand

RAM Size

Storage Type

Screen Size

Processor Type

Operating System

Etc Etc

These attributes must be consistently filled so products are filterable via both front-end search and collection filtering. Tags and metafields must be properly aligned to support this.

5. SEO-Optimized Description Rewrites

All products require rewritten descriptions suitable for direct-to-consumer selling.

Use tools like Yodel, Jasper AI, or Product Description Magic to generate conversational, SEO-rich descriptions with keywords, condition notes, and use-case benefits.

Descriptions must be clear, customer-friendly, and free from technical clutter.

6. Image Mapping & Optimization

Ensure every product has high-quality images (provided or pulled from Amazon as appropriate).

Apply descriptive alt text to every image for SEO and accessibility.

Identify and resolve any broken or irrelevant images during import.

7. Metadata & SEO Setup

Every product must include:

A concise and keyword-rich meta title (max ~60 characters)

A compelling meta description (max ~155 characters)

Structured for both search engine optimization and potential ChatGPT-based search discovery.

8. Product Variant Grouping

Where applicable, group SKUs as Shopify variants (e.g., same laptop model with 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB RAM).

Ensure consistent parent-child relationships and price differentiation.

Platform Integration Context: Veeqo vs. Linnworks

The client currently uses Veeqo for multi-channel sales, but it does not offer sufficient support for the level of product structure, spec detail, and content control required for Shopify.

The long-term plan is to move to Linnworks, which is expected to better handle:

Centralized product specification management

Synchronization across Shopify, Amazon, eBay, and other channels

Dynamic tagging and metafield control for filtering/searching

***Familiarity with how data is structured for Linnworks (or similar platforms) will be seen as a strong advantage.***

Matrixify / Excelify for CSV import/export

Yodel, Jasper, or Product Description Magic for AI-generated copy

Deep understanding of Shopify metafields, collections, tags, variants
