VMAP / VAST Amazon Services / S3 Preroll Skippable Ads

I have a social network app - it's not very big at the moment and I do a lot of coding / work myself so before you try to hi ball me keep that in mind.
Here's what I need.
On my app users can already upload video which goes to a AWS S3 bucket. Then active users can click play which signals a call back (playback) from the bucket.
I want to be able to have a preroll, mid roll, banner ad called from an lab style xml (similar to YouTube) and the ad would be skippable after X seconds.
I have played with AWS MediaTailor and HSL etc but this is something a little deeper than a Wordpress Site.
I need more of a chain of commands... User uploads to S3, users click play which would set off a series of events and all automated. Not sure if it needs to be a Vod Ad Stitching Process or what.
But in a nutshell user clicks play - event one signals the ad to stitch before the video is called. Ad could be skipped after x seconds etc.
My social site is php with restful api for the app side. I need this all to occur with in the AWS frame work.
I need it to call up an output folder for the ads - then a video folder where the uploads from end users go.
I have tried to chain it with MediaConvert / MediaTailor / Lambda / S3 but I am not getting it right.
again this needs to be automated - user uploads - end users playback - ads are automatically in random for end user to see.
