Server Administrator/GitHub Specialist for AWS Setup
Budget: $75 – $125 USD
I’m looking for a skilled server administrator with experience in Git, GitHub, and AWS/Virtualmin to help me set up a specific website’s code on GitHub while ensuring it stays secure and exclusive to my ownership. The job has two parts: first, verify that my code isn’t already on someone else’s GitHub repository, and then set up my AWS server (running Virtualmin) to push the code to my private GitHub repo and prepare it for updates. This is a one-time setup with potential for small follow-up tasks.
Responsibilities
-Check for Code Duplication
-Search GitHub (public repos) to confirm my website code isn’t already uploaded elsewhere.
-Use unique snippets I’ll provide (e.g., specific HTML or text from my site) to verify no one has copied it.
-Report back with findings before proceeding (if it’s found elsewhere, we’ll discuss next steps).
-Set Up Code on My GitHub Repo
-Access my AWS server (via SSH or Virtualmin) and locate the files for one specific website (I’ll provide the domain or path, e.g., /home/myblog/public_html).
-Copy the files to a temporary folder, remove sensitive configs (e.g., wp-config.php, .env), and keep only public-facing code (HTML, CSS, JS, etc.).
-Push the code to my private GitHub repo (I’ll provide the URL, e.g., https://github.com/myusername/myblog-content, and add you as a collaborator).
-Ensure it goes to my repo, not yours or anyone else’s.
-Configure the Server for Updates
-Set up the live site folder on AWS (e.g., /home/myblog/public_html) with Git linked to my repo so it can pull updates later.
-Create a test environment (e.g., /home/myblog-test/public_html) and configure a subdomain in Virtualmin (e.g., test.myblog.com) for testing changes.
-Hand Off
-Clean up any temporary files on the server.
Let me know when it’s done so I can give my developer access to the GitHub repo.
Be available to pull updates from my repo to the live site when I ask (e.g., git pull origin main), though this might be a separate small gig later.
Requirements

Proficiency with Git and GitHub (pushing/pulling code, setting up repositories).
Ability to search GitHub for code snippets (basic investigative skills).
Attention to detail—must follow instructions to keep code in my repo only.
Comfortable working via SSH and navigating Linux file systems (e.g., Ubuntu or CentOS on AWS).
Trustworthy and respects ownership—no copying or reusing my code.
Nice-to-Haves
Familiarity with web hosting setups (e.g., Apache/Nginx via Virtualmin).
Basic scripting skills to automate checks or setups (not required).
