Executing CURL command to EC2 instance on Private Subnet

I've created two subnets - public and private subnet on AWS. I am able to ping the private EC2 from the public EC2 and also am able to SSH into the private from the bastion host. I am trying to execute a curl transfer from the public EC2 to transfer a file from the private ec2 via port 26657. If this is possible, I am looking for someone to help me solve this problem. Thanks!
