DevOps Specialist for Application Performance
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
We are seeking an experienced DevOps specialist to help diagnose and resolve intermittent performance issues in our web application. Additionally, we want a comprehensive review of our current architecture with recommendations for performance and cost optimizations.
Application Stack:
Frontend: AngularJS
Backend: Java running on Apache Tomcat
Database: Aurora Serverless MySQL
Cache: Redis
Web Server: Nginx redirecting to Tomcat
Hosting: EC2, RDS, and S3 on AWS
Problem Description:
Users at specific locations with mesh networks experience slow load times.
Issue resolves after around 8 hours or immediately when connecting via VPN.
Occurs with multiple ISPs, but only at two specific locations.
Network tab in developer tools shows successful requests with long load times.
Responsibilities:
Review the entire architecture and setup of the application.
Diagnose potential root causes including DNS resolution issues, server-side throttling/misconfiguration, and session management problems.
Implement monitoring of AWS infrastructure components (EC2, RDS) using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, VPC Flow Logs, ALB Access Logs, or other relevant tools.
Enhance application-level logging (frontend and backend) to facilitate better diagnostics as per best practices.
Provide a detailed report with suggestions for performance improvements and cost optimizations (e.g., load balancing).
Implement approved changes to enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the application.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a DevOps specialist or similar role with a strong background in AWS services.
In-depth knowledge of network configurations and performance monitoring tools.
Familiarity with Apache Tomcat, Redis caching systems, and Nginx web servers.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Experience implementing infrastructure improvements based on diagnostic findings.
Ability to provide a comprehensive review of existing architecture with actionable recommendations for improvement.
Capacity to implement approved optimizations aimed at improving performance and reducing costs.
