AWS Infrastructure & Cyber Security Review for Startup Platform
Job Description
We are an Australian technology startup that has been operating for approximately 12 months and are preparing for the next stage of growth.
Following a recent server-related issue, we'd like an experienced AWS infrastructure and cyber security professional (or small team) to review our current environment and provide practical recommendations before we continue scaling the platform.
This is not just a penetration test. We're looking for someone with real-world AWS and infrastructure experience who can review our overall setup and tell us whether we're following best practices, where our risks are, and what improvements we should make.
Our environment currently consists of an AWS-hosted application with Ubuntu/Apache servers, GitHub CI/CD and supporting infrastructure.
We're looking for advice on areas such as:
AWS architecture
Server configuration
Storage (including whether Amazon S3 should be implemented)
Backup strategy
Disaster recovery
Security and access controls
IAM permissions
Monitoring and logging
Deployment process
Production vs development environments
General AWS and cyber security best practices
Any obvious security or infrastructure risks
We're not expecting a large enterprise engagement. As a startup, we're simply looking for someone experienced who can review our current setup, identify any gaps, and provide practical recommendations that suit a growing business.
We'd like to know:
Are we following best practice?
What are our biggest risks?
What should we fix before continuing to scale?
What improvements should we plan for over the next 6–12 months?
Is our backup and disaster recovery strategy adequate?
Are there any obvious single points of failure?
Deliverables
A written report outlining your findings
A prioritised list of recommendations
Practical solutions and next steps
A short meeting to explain your findings and answer questions
