Rock band that wants to gig

We’re a rock band playing out of a basement, and we want to start playing some gigs, but we want to upgrade our set up and learn a thing or two so we sound decent at a gig. We’d like someone to tell us what equipment works, what equipment needs upgrading, and what new equipment we need.
