About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Data Scientist with expertise in Image Processing and Computer Vision to contribute to the BrainGlobe project, specifically working on improving cellfinder for enhanced visualization and feedback in the Napari-based GUI. This role involves developing algorithms to improve feedback mechanisms, enhance image processing workflows, and optimize real-time processing for better user interaction. Key Responsibilities

Develop and optimize computer vision models for improved feedback and visualization in cellfinder.

Implement real-time progress indicators, pop-ups, and status messages in the Napari GUI.

Improve cell detection and classification accuracy using deep learning models.

Work with large-scale 2D/3D microscopy datasets to enhance image processing techniques.

Integrate deep learning models (CNNs, Transformers) for better feature extraction.

Optimize model performance for real-time processing and low-latency inference in Napari.

Collaborate with the BrainGlobe team, open-source contributors, and neuroscientists.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD in Computer Science, Neuroscience, AI, Data Science, or related fields.

Strong experience in image processing, computer vision, and deep learning.

Proficiency in Python, OpenCV, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and image augmentation techniques.

Experience working with Napari, Qt-based GUI frameworks, or scientific visualization tools.

Familiarity with cell detection, segmentation, and tracking methods in microscopy images.

Experience with data preprocessing, annotation, and model training on biological datasets.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in computational neuroscience and microscopy image analysis.

Prior work in biomedical imaging, cell segmentation, or tissue structure analysis.

Knowledge of graph-based methods, classical image processing, and deep learning hybrid approaches.

Familiarity with Napari plugin development and GUI enhancement techniques.
