Full-Stack Developer for AI/ML Startup

About the Role
We're a bootstrapped AI/ML startup (Toronto-based, two-person founding team) looking for a Full-Stack Agent Engineer + DevOps Engineer to take our OpenAI-powered agents and Streamlit dashboards from local development into production-ready cloud infrastructure. You'll own the entire software lifecycle—from writing agent logic and APIs to designing and deploying our AWS architecture.
This is a 0-to-1 role: you'll architect our first cloud deployment, establish CI/CD practices, define our codebase standards, and prepare the foundation for future team growth. You'll report directly to the founders and have significant autonomy in technical decision-making.
What You'll Build
Agent & Backend Development (60%)
Build scalable Python services that integrate OpenAI Agents SDK, Composio, and external APIs (Supabase, Zapier, Intuit Timesheet)
Develop RESTful APIs and event-driven workflows to power agent orchestration
Write clean, testable code with comprehensive test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end)
Optimize agent inference, latency, and cost
Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps (30%)
Design and implement a lightweight, cost-effective AWS architecture (EC2, Lambda, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch)
Set up auto-scaling for both long-running services and serverless workloads
Build out a CI/CD pipeline (GitHub → AWS) with automated testing and deployments
Implement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or CloudFormation
Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting patterns (CloudWatch, basic observability)
Maintain tight cost controls and optimize resource usage for lean budgets
Code Quality & Process (10%)
Define repo structure, branching strategy, and PR workflow to enable smooth collaboration
Establish Python linting, formatting, and testing standards (pytest, mypy, pre-commit hooks)
Document deployment procedures and architecture decisions
Create runbooks for common operational tasks
