Project Overview: Building a Specialist Mining AI - Your Consultant's Copilot
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AI Engineer / Developer to lead the build of a custom, internal AI solution for Meridian Core Solutions. This is a foundational project designed to empower our team of mining engineers, geologists, and geotechnical specialists. The AI will be a high-performance, intelligent assistant, providing unparalleled support in the complex domain of mining.

The core purpose of this AI is to be highly educated in Mining Engineering, Geology, and Geotechnical disciplines, enabling our employees to:

Intelligent Q&A: Ask complex technical questions and receive accurate, context-aware answers.

Report Generation & Updating: Write, summarize, and update comprehensive technical reports.

Data Validation & Fact-Checking: Fact-check data, identify errors, and flag inconsistencies in reports and datasets.

Complex Calculations: Conduct specialized engineering, geological, and geotechnical calculations.

Insight Generation: Provide rapid analysis and identify key insights from large volumes of technical data.

This is a unique opportunity to build a proprietary AI that will deliver significant competitive advantage in the global mining consultancy space.

Contract Details
This will be a project-based contract with clear milestones and deliverables. We are looking for an individual who can commit to the successful completion of this build within an agreed-upon timeline. Given the complexity, we anticipate this to be a [e.g., 3-6 month] project, with potential for ongoing maintenance and feature development. Remote work is fully supported.

Key Phases & Deliverables
Discovery & Data Strategy:

Collaborate with our internal subject matter experts to understand specific data types, workflows, and desired AI outputs.

Develop a robust data collection, cleaning, and labeling strategy for mining-specific data.

Advise on data security and privacy best practices.

Foundation Model Selection & Configuration:

Recommend and configure the optimal large language model (LLM) foundation (e.g., Google Gemini, OpenAI GPT-4o) on an appropriate cloud AI platform (e.g., Google Cloud Vertex AI, Microsoft Azure AI).

Data Ingestion & Fine-tuning:

Implement efficient data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured mining data.

Execute the fine-tuning process of the chosen LLM using our proprietary and public mining datasets.

Develop and implement prompt engineering strategies for optimal performance.

Feature Development & Integration:

Develop and integrate specific functionalities for calculations, data validation, and report generation.

Build a user-friendly interface or API for internal employee access (potentially integrating with SharePoint or a custom web app).

Testing, Validation & Deployment:

Design and execute comprehensive testing protocols to ensure accuracy, reliability, and security across all functions.

Iterate based on feedback from our technical team.

Assist with the deployment of the AI into our internal systems.

Provide documentation for ongoing maintenance and scalability.

Required Skills & Experience
AI/ML Engineering Expertise: Proven experience in building, fine-tuning, and deploying large language models (LLMs) for specific domains.

Cloud AI Platforms: Deep proficiency with either Google Cloud Vertex AI or Microsoft Azure AI for model management and deployment.

Data Science/Engineering: Strong skills in data collection, cleaning, transformation, and management for AI training.

Domain Understanding (Highly Desired): Experience or a strong foundational understanding of Mining Engineering, Geology, or Geotechnical principles. This is a significant advantage.

Programming: Expert proficiency in Python and relevant AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).

Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders (our engineers and geologists).

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical, accurate, and reliable AI solutions.

Location: While remote, preference given to candidates within a suitable timezone for collaboration with our Adelaide-based core team.
