AI Engineer — Build & Deliver AI Systems for Real Businesses

I run an AI consultancy working with established businesses, mid-market companies, and PE-backed portfolio businesses. I handle the client relationships, discovery, and presenting solutions.

You build everything we deliver.

This is a long-termn retainer not a one-off project. I need someone reliable who can work from a brief and ship working systems without hand-holding.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD
We deliver four core things across every engagement:

AI Audit & Readiness Report — Tools and templates used to assess a client's existing systems and identify where AI belongs.

The 2nd Brain —Extract and connect information that is currently disconnected, stuck in an owner's head, buried in old emails, sitting in legacy files, or spread across systems that don't talk to each other. We bring it all into a single searchable AI knowledge base using RAG pipelines. This vector data base is then used for Ai agents.

Orchestration Layer — n8n workflows or LangChain chains that connect their systems, automate repetitive tasks, and power the AI layer.

AI Agents — Deployed against the 2nd Brain. Slack or Teams bots, customer-facing chatbots, pre-built integrations (Intercom, HubSpot, Xero) powered by their own knowledge base. We are model-agnostic by design.


REQUIRED: BOTH TIERS
This role requires genuine production experience across both tiers.

TIER 1 — SMB Delivery:
· n8n (workflow orchestration)
· Notion (knowledge base and 2nd Brain)
· OpenRouter (model routing)
· Pinecone / Supabase pgvector (vector DB)
· RAG pipelines — chunking, embedding, retrieval
· Slack bot deployment
· DigitalOcean (hosting and snapshot deployments)
· Pre-built AI agent integrations (Intercom, HubSpot, etc.)

TIER 2 — Enterprise Delivery:
· LangChain / LlamaIndex (Python)
· Azure OpenAI / AWS Bedrock
· Azure AI Search / Weaviate
· Docker and containerised services
· Azure API Management / Kong
· Datadog / Azure Monitor
· MS Teams bot deployment
· SharePoint / Confluence indexing

SECURITY — NON-NEGOTIABLE
We access real client systems. Some clients have IT managers and legal teams who will ask questions. You must be able to operate to this standard:
· All credentials and API keys managed in a dedicated secrets manager (we use 1Password Business)
· Read-only access where possible, always scoped, full offboarding at engagement end
· No raw client data stored on personal devices
· For enterprise clients: all data must remain inside their Azure or AWS environment
· Awareness of Australian Privacy Act obligations

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR
· Proven production experience across both Tier 1 and Tier 2 — not tutorials or demos
· RAG pipeline experience across both SMB and enterprise environments
· Strong written communication — clear, concise, no jargon
· Works well async and independently from a brief
· Takes security seriously and can articulate how
· Bonus: comfortable jumping on a call with a client when needed
