I’m putting together a practical guide that helps agricultural students understand, monitor, and improve soil health on organic farms. The content should move beyond theory and give readers clear, field-ready methods they can try during labs, internships, or their own small plots.
Scope
• Cover the fundamentals—physical, chemical, and biological indicators of healthy soil—then dive into hands-on techniques such as composting, green-manure rotations, on-farm nutrient cycling, and low-tillage strategies tailored to organic systems.
• Explain the “why” behind each practice in student-friendly language, supported by current research, but keep the focus on real-world application.
• Include step-by-step demonstrations (e.g., simple soil texture test, bulk-density measurement, earthworm count), safety notes, and any basic equipment lists.
• Provide quick reference tables or infographics highlighting ideal pH ranges, nutrient-release timelines, and cover-crop pairings.
• Conclude with discussion questions or mini-assignments that instructors can adopt in class.
Format & length
– Word-count target: roughly 4,000 words, organised into logical sections with sub-headings.
– Supply any visuals as high-resolution PNGs or SVGs, embedded in the document and also delivered separately.
– Use clear citations (APA or Harvard is fine) for research sources and link to any open-access studies referenced.
Acceptance criteria
1. All practices align with certified organic standards (IFOAM/USDA-NOP).
2. Every method described includes purpose, materials needed, step-by-step instructions, and expected outcome.
3. Delivered as both an editable Google Doc and a PDF.
4. Plagiarism-free; originality will be checked.
