I am shifting the focus of my agricultural activities to animal husbandry, specifically a poultry operation centred on chickens for breeding rather than meat or egg production. I need practical, step-by-step guidance to get the entire breeding programme running efficiently—from selecting the right parent stock through to managing hatch rates and rearing quality chicks for future layers or broilers.
Key areas I want your experience to cover:
• Facility planning: optimal coop layout, ventilation, bio-security flow, and space requirements for parent stock, hatchery, and grow-out sections.
• Breeding management: flock selection criteria, mating ratios, record-keeping templates, genetic improvement targets, and techniques to maximise fertility and hatchability.
• Feed and health protocol: balanced breeder rations, vaccination schedules, early-chick nutrition, and clear contingency plans for common diseases.
• Operational workflow: daily, weekly, and monthly task lists, labour estimates, and cost projections so I can track performance against goals.
• KPI dashboard: simple spreadsheet or cloud-based solution to log eggs set, fertility %, hatch %, mortality, and growth rates.
