Watermonitoring and control system
Budget: €250 – €750 EUR
Project Description
We are looking for a freelance developer or small team to build a scalable and production-ready IoT-based water monitoring and remote shutoff system for apartment buildings.
The system will measure water usage through pulse-emitting meters, allow remote valve control, and send the data to a cloud-based platform with user access. The goal is to commercialize this solution with a subscription-based model, where users and administrators can access usage data, receive reports, and control valves.
Important: I will cover all hardware procurement costs. You are responsible for selecting compatible components and specifying what needs to be ordered.
Project Scope
1. Firmware Development (Open Source)
Based on ESP32, Arduino or similar microcontroller
Pulse counting from water meters (e.g., S0 output)
Remote control of motorized shutoff valve (via relay)
Secure data transmission (MQTT or REST API)
Code must be fully open source and well documented
2. Web Platform Development
User login with multiple access levels:
System Administrator
Property Owner/Manager
End User (read-only access)
Real-time water usage dashboard per unit
Remote control interface for valve open/close
Reporting and export features per unit or time range
Admin panel for subscription and access management
Who We’re Looking For
Solid experience with IoT firmware (ESP32, Arduino, etc.)
Familiar with MQTT, REST APIs, secure communication (TLS)
Strong web development background (Node.js, Django, Laravel or similar)
Able to deliver a scalable, production-ready architecture
Communicates clearly and delivers in structured phases
Bonus: experience with subscription-based SaaS systems
What You’ll Get
A clear functional vision and single point of contact
All hardware is paid for and purchased by me based on your specs
Paid prototype phase with potential for long-term collaboration
How to Apply
Please send:
A short introduction of your relevant experience
Examples of similar projects you’ve worked on
Your suggested approach for phase 1
An estimate of the timeline and budget
a few examples/ideas and links to similar products attached
