working with new squad
Budget: £10 – £20 GBP
The purpose of this task
• We’re keen to understand how you approach working with a new squad
• We’re also interested in how you structure your thinking, and how you would ensure kick-off is a positive experience for the new squad
Method
• You can use whatever methods you want, Miro, slides, anything else...
• You can run it as a presentation, a 'workshop' or...
• The main thing is that we walk away understanding how you would structure spinning up a new squad from scratch and creating a first draft coaching plan
• Normally we’d run this as a whiteboarding session in person, but for now, it will have to be virtual
• We'd like to time box this section to 10 minutes.
The Task
You may have seen our work on Covid which we stood up in record time in response to the current pandemic.
If you were with us as a Scrum Master at Genomics England when we started this, how would you have:
• Approached the spin-up of a brand new Covid squad, especially given that the squad members have a wide variety of skills (designers, software engineers, bioinformaticians, genomic scientists, etc.) from a wide variety of backgrounds (academia, tech startups, pharma, consulting, etc.) and are not necessarily familiar with Agile ways of working
• Designed Day 1? Week 1?
• Crafted your first 4 week coaching plan?
Please note: We are not asking you to create workshop materials, but rather to walk us through your approach and how you would ensure the squad gets the best possible start. Your 4 week coaching plan needn't be too detailed - think about goals and potential coaching interventions you might take to meet these goals.
