Estimate Marlin Size from Video
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I have a short GoPro clip in MOV format that shows a marlin leaping clear of the water, and I’d like to know roughly how big it really is—both length and girth—purely for my own curiosity. An accuracy window of about five inches is perfectly acceptable; I don’t need lab-grade precision, but the numbers should be credible enough that I can quote them to friends without embarrassment.
The raw footage has no reference scale in frame besides the boat and the sea, so you’ll likely need to stabilise the shot, pull key frames, and apply photogrammetry or other computer-vision techniques to generate the estimate.
