CCTV Footage Restoration Needed
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I’m in possession of an MP4 file from our security system that shows clear signs of suspicious edits. Segments jump abruptly, some frames repeat, and the timestamp metadata no longer lines up in a few spots. My objective is straightforward: recover or reconstruct the footage so it reflects what the camera originally captured.
Here’s the situation in more detail.
• Format: single-stream MP4 pulled directly from the DVR.
• Issue: the file appears to have been tampered with – not merely corrupted. Cuts and splices are visible, and I suspect certain events were trimmed out or overlaid.
• Goal: produce a clean, continuous video (same resolution and frame rate) and—if possible—preserve the authentic metadata so the timeline is trustworthy again.
I expect you to use whatever digital-forensic or video-repair workflow you’re comfortable with—whether that’s FFmpeg, Hex, forensic hashing tools, or specialized restoration suites—as long as the end product meets the criteria below.
Deliverables
1. Restored MP4 that plays end-to-end without the current jumps or duplications.
2. Brief report (PDF or text) outlining the edits you identified, how you reversed or compensated for them, and any remaining gaps that were impossible to recover.
3. Checksum values (MD5/SHA) for both the received original and the restored file for chain-of-custody clarity.
Acceptance criteria
• No visible or audible artifacts introduced by the repair process.
• Timestamps and frame sequence align logically across the entire runtime.
• Report is concise yet sufficient for internal use should we need to escalate legally.
