I publish short, educational videos every single day and I need an editor who naturally thinks in Instagram Reels / YouTube-Shorts pacing. Your main job is to turn my talking-head recordings into punchy 60-90-second clips that never feel static.
Here’s what the edit typically involves: remove all pauses, stumbles, and filler; insert supporting images, b-roll, or quick screen recordings (ChatGPT prompts, Instagram analytics, browser snippets, etc.) whenever the narrative benefits; layer on bold text overlays and snappy animation effects; highlight key phrases with circles, arrows, or markers; and be sure the visual changes at least every five seconds to keep attention high.
Because the content is educational, clarity is crucial, but I still want the playful energy that keeps viewers swiping for more. If you already spend time on Reels and Shorts you know the style I’m after.
Test task
I’ll start you with a one-minute clip. Edit it exactly as described above so I can see your timing, eye for relevant inserts, and overall rhythm.
If we both like the result, we will get started right away. If all is good then there is ongoing work: daily short-form edits and, later, full-length videos that expand on the same topics.
This is how I see it, we can start with small paid project, if it is good, I will give you more volume, and eventually we can work long term once we know each other.
Acceptance criteria for each edit:
• All dead air, mistakes, and audible filler removed
• At least one visual change every 3–5 seconds
• Relevant text overlays and animated highlights for key points
• Supporting b-roll or screen recordings that match the spoken explanation
• Color, audio, and levels optimized for mobile viewing and vertical 9:16 export
