Clean Up Old VHS Recording
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I have a 1 hour 45 minute VHS transfer of a friend’s live music performance that is currently very rough. My goal is to end up with a single MP4 that looks and sounds as good as the source will allow.
On the picture side I need the grain and tape noise brought down and the colours and overall brightness lifted so it no longer feels washed-out. I’m not worried about motion stabilisation; the camera work is fairly steady already.
For audio, the vocals sit too far back in the mix. I’d like them brought forward and the overall levels evened out so listeners don’t have to keep reaching for the volume knob. If a gentle touch of background-hiss reduction naturally comes with that, great, but the priority is vocal clarity and balanced dynamics.
Please work in whatever suite you’re comfortable with—DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, iZotope RX, or equivalent—as long as the final deliverable is:
• A single, self-contained MP4 of the entire show at the highest practical resolution and bitrate
• A short before-and-after excerpt (30–60 seconds) so I can preview the grade and mix before you render the full file
As soon as I sign off on the sample, go ahead with the full render and deliver the cleaned master.
